The story of the game took place in the first half. The Pella High girls’ basketball team held Newton to just four field goal attempts in the first quarter and ten total in the half on their way to a 60 – 37 victory in the quarterfinals of the Class 4A regional tournament. Pella also committed just four turnovers in the opening two periods while forcing 15 Cardinal giveaways on defense. Katie Vander Molen led all scorers with 17 points, and Ciara Buchheit had a big nine points off the bench. Pella’s girls move on to play Ballard this Saturday evening in the semifinals.
