Pella Community Schools are trying to decide on a five, or six day rotation for the districts collaboration time between Madison and Lincoln, while still maintaining instructional time with math and language arts. Lincoln Principal Rich Schulte tells KNIA/KRLS that the classes they call “specials,” which are causing the need for discussion, are Music, Art, and P.E. Schulte says that the question is how can they get teachers together at each grade level to talk about the students performance. Schulte has surveyed other schools, and found that Pella was on the upper end of time spent in “specials” and recess, so pulling back a little bit in those two areas would allow them to give the teachers the tools they need, while still offering the kids the same educational opportunities.
