The National Weather Service says the snow will taper off from west to east today. Colder air will settle across the state tonight, resulting in very cold wind chills north late. The big weather story of the coming week will be a winter storm potentially affecting the region on Tuesday and Tuesday night. The weather system responsible for this storm has not yet reached the northwest U.S. so there remains considerable uncertainty, but it is likely that snow will fall across most of Iowa, with moderate or greater accumulations possible especially across the south. After the snowfall much colder weather will move into the region, with wind chills falling dramatically on Wednesday night into Thursday.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office reports that area roads are up to 100% snow and ice covered and slick, and they urge caution when driving this morning. State plows are in operation, and the Iowa DOT reports that most of the roadways in southern and eastern Iowa are %100 snow and ice covered.
