Twelve different Eagles found the scoresheet for Pella Christian in their 70 – 36 rout of Cardinal of Eldon last night in the first round of the Class 2A boys’ district basketball tournament. The Eagles were down 6 – 2 at one point in the first quarter, then went on an 11 – 0 run after a time-out and never relinquished the lead. Coach Larry Hessing says their talk with them during the break helped wake the team up. Coltin Collins led all scorers with 14 points, as Pella Christian moves on to play, who else, but PCM this Thursday night in the semifinals. After knocking off Colfax-Mingo very easily on Saturday, the Eagles’ girls are back in action in round two of the Class 2A tournament tonight in Van Meter. Coach Kevin Van Maanen says after scouting the Bulldogs, they remind him of a familiar foe. You can hear tonight’s second round match-up live on 92.1 KRLS and with Cory Houser and Wynne Veenstra on the call. Pregame starts at 6:30 p.m. with tip-off at seven.
