Two close games were had for our area Bluegrass Conference girls’ basketball teams in the opening round of the Class 1A regional tournament last night. Melcher-Dallas defeated Tri-County 38 – 37. The Saints got off to a 9 – 0 lead, but the game was close the rest of the way. Melcher-Dallas led by six with under a minute to go and held on despite a late rally by the Trojans. Megan Roush scored 13, and MacKenzie Suntken and Maddie Roland each had ten for the Saints. Jessi Anderson swiped 12 rebounds, as well, as Melcher-Dallas improves to 11 – 11 and will move on to play #1 seed Lynnville-Sully on Tuesday. It wasn’t as pleasant an ending for Twin Cedars, as they were involved in a close game, but couldn’t hit key free throws down the stretch, which allowed H-L-V to escape with a 57 – 54 win. Brittney Roby capped off her senior season for the Sabers with another double-double effort of 23 points and 14 boards. The loss ends Twin Cedars’ season at 9 – 13.
