The National Weather Service says rain is expected to transition to snow today from west to east during the day with rapidly deteriorating conditions expected as the snow begins. Heavy intense snowfall is expected which will lead to roads becoming quickly covered with snow. Northwest winds will increase to 20 to 35 mph with gusts in excess of 55 mph through the afternoon into the evening. Blizzard conditions are expected with whiteout and life threatening conditions. Be prepared for treacherous travel conditions by this afternoon. In addition, the heavy wet snow when combined with the strong winds may cause tree damage and power outages. The blizzard conditions are expected to last through the night and linger across the northeast into Friday morning.
