They played a grueling 14-game conference schedule in a stout Iowa Conference this season, and the Central men’s basketball team, who was picked to finish last in the league this season, won more conference games than any of the other teams in 2013-14’s campaign. Though where you finish in the conference only determines who takes home a trophy and where you are seeded in the conference tournament, it’s still a meaningful achievement when you’re able to call yourself regular season champions, even if winning the league title doesn’t get you a ticket to the NCAA Division III national tournament. Coach Craig Douma says he’s more proud of winning the conference this season. Douma adds that he still is extremely pleased that the team was able to buckle down for two more games and win the league tournament to get them to the national stage.
