The Central softball team recorded their second straight doubleheader sweep with a pair of wins in close games on Friday. The Dutch almost gave up a four-run lead in the seventh inning, but escaped with a 5 – 4 win over Whittier. Mallory Schulenberg pitched a complete game, giving up four runs on eight hits, including a three-run homer in the seventh that made it a one-run game. Central blew a lead in the seventh inning against Chapman, and they went all the way to the tenth inning to record another 5 – 4 victory. Trisha Smith pitched all ten innings and picked up the win, giving up just two earned runs and two hits while striking out 12. Centerfielder Paige Heesch had the game-winning RBI single in the top of the tenth. The Dutch have rattled off five straight wins and are 11 – 3 on the season. They conclude their Tucson, Arizona swing today with games against Gustavus Adolphus and St. Olaf.
