Way back in November and early December, the Pella High girls’ basketball team got their regular season started with three convincing victories to get the ball rolling this year. They scored 226 combined points in those three contests against Des Moines North, Carlisle and Oskaloosa. Other than Carlisle, who since rebounded and are having the turnaround of the century as state tournament semifinalists after defeating Dallas Center-Grimes in the first round, the other two squads were a bit down this season. Coach Jerod Garland says that this season, it was good for his girls to play opponents like that to begin their schedule because of the inexperience they had coming back. Garland adds that it also helped them heading into the fourth game of the season to play a very good Ballard team with a 3 – 0 record and with the offense clicking like it was at the time.
