With it being Severe Weather Awareness Week, communities around the state will be testing equipment, updating plans, and informing the public what to do when inclement weather occurs. Marcia Slycord, Administrative Services Manager at the Pella Police Department, tells KNIA/KRLS News that anytime Pella falls on the radar with a tornado, the siren will be set off to alert the public of possible danger. She says that the reason to do this even if it appears that a storm has passed, or missed the city, is because it’s not uncommon for tornados to change course and come back towards an area that appeared to be in the clear. Slycord concludes by saying something that was reiterated by Pella Police Chief Robert Bokinsky, which is that it’s “better to be safe, than sorry.”
