Being the only senior on a team, and a starter at that, means you’re looked upon for several things over the course of your final high school basketball season. Jackie Sunderman was that for the Pella High girls’ basketball team this year. The twelfth-grader averaged five points in her senior year and played several minutes for a Lady Dutch squad that was trying to find depth early in the season. Sunderman was also asked to shoulder a lot of the leadership responsibilities that go with being a senior. Coach Jerod Garland says that Sunderman did not scoff at the task of having to wear several hats this season. Garland adds that all of the girls had something positive to say about Sunderman in the locker room following their loss to Ballard a little over a week ago. Pella’s girls finished the season 16 – 7 overall.
