This week is Severe Weather Awareness Week. Jim Lee, with the National Weather Service in Des Moines, recommends to remain aware of where you are in relation to incoming severe weather, stay aware of what is going on around you, and what the weather watches and warnings are in the area. He says if you happen to be caught traveling, try to find a place to stop and go inside, and he says please do not crawl up under an overpass, and unless you absolutely have no other option, do not lie down in any roadside ditch. He adds that the National Weather Service is happy to have any storm spotters, anywhere, but they stress when you call – report what you SEE, not what you THINK you see.
