They may not have scored a goal on Saturday, but the improvement was noticeable for the PCM girls’ soccer team. The Mustangs were in Newton for a tournament and played both Perry and the host Cardinals. Several PCM mistakes allowed Perry to win the first game, 3 – 0. The Bluejays scored two goals in the first half before adding their third and final in second 40 minutes. The Mustangs had played Newton earlier in the week and were shutout 10 – 0; the second time around was still in the Cardinals’ favor, but PCM did show strides in a 4 – 0 loss. All four of Newton’s goals came in the first half, with both teams being shutout in the second, something Coach Bill Sowder says he’s very happy about. PCM is now 1 – 5 on the season, and they’ll next play Grinnell on Monday.
