Being the only Class 2A school in attendance, the Pella High boys’ soccer team competed until the very end with three other Class 3A schools in tournament action on Saturday. They started the day with a game against Davenport North, where they dropped 1 – 0 due to a defensive miscue early in the second half. Will Warner found the back of the net in game two against Des Moines Lincoln in the second half to tie the score at one per side, but a late goal by the Railsplitters gave them a 2 – 1 victory. The Little Dutch, who had been shorthanded all day due to players taking the ACT’s, finally got their full roster back for game three with Des Moines Roosevelt. The Roughriders took a lead just three minutes into the contest, but the Dutch would score the next three unanswered, off the feet of Noah Clayberg, Seth Johnson and Warner to give them a 3 – 1 win. Pella is 4 – 2 overall, and they’ll head back out onto the pitch today against Gilbert, while the Lady Dutch, who beat Des Moines Lincoln on Saturday 5 – 0, will play Dallas Center-Grimes tomorrow.
