With so much riding for seeding in the Iowa Conference tournament next week, Coe and Central’s softball teams split their doubleheader yesterday in Pella. The Dutch had an early lead in game one, but Coe responded and put up a pair of runs in the seventh inning to win 5 – 3. Kaitlyn Matzen went 2-for-3 at the dish, with one of her hits being a two-run blast, her fifth of the season. Game two had even more seventh-inning dramatics. With the score tied at one with one out and the bases empty in the bottom of the frame, Katie Canney delivered her fifth home run of the season to walk-off on the Kohawks, 2 – 1. Central is now 28 – 8 overall and 8 – 4 in league play. They will next face Dubuque on Saturday to conclude their regular season.
