Alise Miller’s two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning propelled Luther to a 7-3 victory over Central College Saturday afternoon in an elimination game in the Division III softball regionals. Whitney Sower’s RBI single in the first inning plated Abbey Strajack for Central, and the Dutch held the 1-0 lead through five innings behind a strong pitching performance from junior Mallory Schulenberg. Miller’s long ball gave the Norse the lead, and they added two more homers in the seventh to take a commanding 7-1 lead. While the game was stuck at 1-0, both teams had chances to come up with the big hit, and Central Coach George Wares says that his team’s lack of ability to do so is what cost them the game. The Dutch did put together a rally in the bottom of the seventh, scoring two runs, but they left runners on second and third and the final margin was 7-3 in favor of the Norse. Central’s season ends with a record of 30-12.
