Knoxville’s City Council and the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors met Thursday evening to discuss a change in reporting of the hotel/motel tax, which is collected by the City. Currently, the City allocates 50% of the tax collected annually, to the Chamber for tourism-related expenses. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the format of the report, and the frequency that it will be submitted to the city. Chamber members devised a format broken down into categories and presented the proposal to the Council. It was requested that invoices be attached to the report, and a dollar limit was discussed. The Council will review the proposal, and another meeting will take place to finalize the details. As this was a work session, no action was taken Thursday evening.
