Facing a familiar foe in the first round, the Pella High girls’ tennis team fell to Boone in the team portion of regional tournament play on Saturday. The Lady Dutch barely made it through to the doubles’ portion, dropping four of the six singles’ matches and needing to win all three doubles contests to win the meet. Unfortunately, Pella’s number two doubles team fell, causing the rest of the meet to instantly come to a close with the 5 – 2 decision in favor of the Toreadors. Coach Josh McCollam tells KNIA/KRLS Sports he is very proud of his girls and they showed a lot of heart playing tough against a team that had defeated them earlier in the season 10 – 1. Next up for the Pella High girls is the individual tournament this Thursday at Pella Christian. Full results of Saturday’s play can be found below.

Sami Wassenaar lost 2-6, 3-6 to Emma Rose.
Molly Kalkwarf lost 2-6, 4-6 to Sierra Leeds.
Bri Buzick won 6-1, 6-1 against Jenny Behn.
Lauren Kriegel lost 1-6, 2-6 to Breanna Sterenberg.
Allie Dingeman lost 4-6, 1-6 to Carlie Romig.
Anna Jaarsma won 7-5, 6-2 over Bridgette Good.

Pella trailed 2-4 after singles, meaning that Boone had to win just 1 of 3 doubles matches to advance.

Molly Kalkwarf and Alli Dingeman lost at number 2 doubles in a really tough match after winning the first set, they went on to lose in a third set tiebreak 6-4, 0-6, 7-10 to Rose and Sterenberg. After the completion of the 2 doubles match, the numbers 1 (Wassenaar/Buzick) and 3 (Kriegel/Jaarsma) doubles matches were stopped. Boone advanced to play Grinnell.
