A defensive battle went Norwalk’s way in yesterday Little Hawkeye Conference boys’ soccer battle between the Warriors and Pella. The final score was 1 – 0 in favor of the visiting Warriors. The two squads were tied at half and looked destined to go to overtime, despite Norwalk’s constant barrage of shots on goal. Pella’s goalkepper, Chase Petty, kept making brilliant save after brilliant save to keep his team in the game. However, a breakaway in the Little Dutch zone led to a one-on-one opportunity for Norwalk at the 52’, which they capitalized on and held on for the win. Coach Mark Solomon says that Petty was locked in from the word “go.” Pella falls to 10 – 4 – 1 on the season, and they’ll next play at Mount Pleasant on Friday. The girls were on the correct side of a 1 – 0 decision against the Warriors. Freshman Emma Thoreson scored the game’s only goal in the 32’ which proved to be the game winner. The Lady Dutch are now 9 – 3, and they’ll play Marshalltown at home on Friday.
