It was a great day for two of our area schools on the links yesterday. Both PCM and Pella Christian’s boys’ golf teams moved one step away from the Class 2A state golf meet, finishing first and second, respectively, at Des Moines Christian’s home course in Granger. Six of the top ten individual golfers were from PCM; leading the way was Devon Woody who shot a 77, good for second individually, Ryan Jennings and Wade Hill each carded an 80, and Justin Beener scored 81. For the Eagles, Mason Howerzyl and Jordan Pleima tied for sixth with a round of 82, Mitch Fopma shot 83, and Josh Posthuma had an 86. The Eagles had the second spot due to a tiebreaker with the host Lions, who also shot a team score of 333. Justin Stravers had the best “fifth score” by one stroke, with a round of 89, which allowed the Eagles to advance. Both schools will golf in the district meet a week from tomorrow at Lake Panorama. Pella Christian, however, will next host their varsity invitational tournament on Monday.
