Shortly after 9 Monday morning, Columbia Fire and Rescue personnel were dispatched to a report of a truck rollover at the intersection of Highway 14 and Virginia Street, west of Columbia. A southbound Country Trash garbage truck overturned and came to rest in the southern ditch of Virginia Street, on the east side of Highway 14. Jeff Pierce, with Columbia Fire & Rescue, tells KNIA KRLS News that the truck crossed the northbound lane of 14, hit a field drive and turned over, coming to rest on the drivers’ side. Pierce says the driver sustained injuries to his face, and was transported to the Chariton Family Medical Center for evaluation; there were no passengers. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Marion County Emergency Management Coordinator Jeff Anderson responded to the scene, to assist Columbia Fire and Rescue personnel. The accident is under investigation.
