The 2013-14 school year was a successful year for Central College athletics. The men’s track and cross country squads were ranked all year in both indoor and outdoor competition, Central softball finished 20th and made it to the national tournament, as did the men’s basketball program, which reached the round of 32 and nearly the Sweet 16. Wrestling, as well, spent some time in the Top 25 in the polls. For the Dutch’s efforts this year, they earned a 50th-place finish in the Learfield Sports Division III Directors’ Cup standings. Points are awarded on each school’s national finish in up to 18 different sports, with the national champion receiving the maximum 100. Almost matching their 359-point total from a year ago, their 358.75 was good for 50th and their 13th top-50 finish since the inception of the Director’s Cup after the 1995-96 season. Central’s highest finish was 12th in the 2000-01 season. Iowa Conference foe Wartburg came in 11th place with 674.5 points, with Luther 38th at 394.5.
