Big bats and strong pitching helped Pella squeeze out a doubleheader sweep of Grinnell on the baseball diamond yesterday. The Dutch won game one, 10 – 2; the score was tied at two going into the fifth, when Grant Judkins came up with a two-run single to untie the game and give winning pitcher, Adam Carey, enough breathing room the rest of the way. The Little Dutch pounded out 11 hits and took advantage of four errors in that first game win. Judkins was on the mound for game two and had to do battle with Eli Dunne. Despite stranding five runners in scoring position, a key RBI double in the third by Judkins was all his team needed in a 1 – 0 victory. Coach Jesse Jablonski says his offense did what they had to against the talented senior. Dunne struck out 12 while Judkins allowed just three hits and recorded eight “K’s” for the “W.” On the softball diamond, the Lady Dutch won 12 – 2 and 11 – 0 over the Tigers. Pella baseball improves to 16 – 8 and the girls are now 5 – 17. Pella baseball plays Des Moines North tonight and the ladies play in the two-day Ankeny tournament on Friday.
