The Pella Police Department is reminding area residents and businesses to on the lookout for potential phone scams. They received a report from a Pella business on Tuesday that said someone was posing as the “Pella Municipal Power & Light Company” and threatened to shut off power to the business if they didn’t pay a bill over the phone. Lt. Paul Haase with Pella Police says that this scam technique is common, and say to never give out any personal information over the phone without verifying who is on the other side of the conversation. If you feel that you’ve fallen victim to a phone scam after someone asks for personal identification or credit card information you should immediately contact your local police department.
