Some members of the Union Street Players will be recognized statewide for their work in community theater. The Iowa Community Theater Association will be handing out Awards of Excellence for shows that were nominated in 2013. USP’s 2013 summer musical, Bye Bye Birdie, is a finalist for four different ICTA awards, including Music Direction by Vocal Director Anne Petrie (like petri dish), Supporting Actress Sara Collins, Scenic Design by Mat Kelly and Direction by Denise Gregory. Union Street Players President Tom Vander Well says it’s always great to see local talent recognized at the state level. The Iowa Community Theater Association’s annual festival will be held June 20 through the 22nd in Red Oak.
