A five-run first inning keyed Twin Cedars’ baseball team back to the Class 1A state tournament last night in a 10 – 0, six-inning win over North Mahaska. Hunter Embray had a big two-run double in that first frame and Drew Carlson capped it off with one swing of the bat. His home run made it five-to-zip in favor of the Sabers, who coasted the rest of the way behind Coy Moore on the mound. Moore was off to a shaky start, walking four in the first three innings, before settling down and allowing just one hit for the entirety of the contest. The Sabers scored three in the bottom of the sixth, capped off by a walk-off walk from Trace Embray to force home the game-winning run. Twin Cedars improves to 33 – 0 and they are on to Principal Park and the state tournament. The Sabers will begin their run towards a championship on Saturday, as they’ll play Underwood in round one at 11:00 a.m.
