It started and ended with a bang. Pella Christian softball used a five-run seventh inning to put away Cardinal of Eldon last night, 9 – 2 in the quarterfinals of the Class 2A regional tournament. With the Eagles as the away team on the scoreboard, Tessa Howerzyl took the first pitch of the game and promptly sent it over the left-centerfield wall for a home run. The Comets put up two in the bottom half of the first, before the Eagles tied it up in the third and scored a total of eight unanswered runs. Natalie Vos got the win on the mound in relief of Nicole Kelderman, pitching five-and-a-third scoreless innings, giving up just two hits, two walks and striking out four. The Eagles are 15 – 18 on the season and they advance to the semifinals on Friday to play Jesup.
