Grinnell softball gave Pella High everything they had, but in the end, the result was the same, as the Lady Dutch squeezed out a 1 – 0 win over the Tigers in the Class 4A regional tournament opener last night. Each team stranded two runners on in the first before the pitchers settled in a bit. Pella had the bases loaded in the fourth with one out, when eighth-grader, Kinzi Van Wyk slapped a sacrifice fly to left to score Lauren Kingery for the game’s only run. The end of the game was not without drama, however. Pitcher Elyse Sadler twice had to work out of danger in the final two frames. The Tigers had the bases loaded and one down in the sixth when Sadler got a strikeout and a groundout to end the inning. Grinnell put the first two runners on, bunted them into scoring position with two outs, before Sadler caught Megan Boseck looking for her eighth punch-out and the game-winner. Pella will play Oskaloosa tomorrow night in Mahaska County in the semifinals at 7:00 p.m.
