The Marion County Community Foundation has determined the grants awarded for 2014. Don Croghan, treasurer of the foundation, says 44 grants were awarded, for a total amount of about $130,000. Secretary Dave Johnson says the recipients must show what was done with the award money, and how the project was successful. Two examples of grants awarded were ice rescue suits for the Bussey and Knoxville Fire Department and Rescue squads, and funding for a musical instrument lending program, at the Knoxville Public Library. Johnson said the foundation looks for innovative ideas, and these two projects really caught the eye of the board members. We’ll have more from Johnson and Croghan next week on Let’s Talk Knoxville.
