Canning season is here, and if you use a pressure canner, you may want to have the gauge checked. Karen Ackley, Ag and Horticulture Assistant with the ISU Extension Office in Marion County, will check your gauge at no cost at the Extension Office. She says faulty pressure gauges can be dangerous. It could lead to spoiled food, if it is underprocessed. She says it could be physically dangerous as well, as the cooker could even explode. If you want to have your gauge tested, stop by the Extension Office, though she does ask that you call ahead, because there are just two there that know how to do the testing.
