Only in sports can you read a headline so against what children have been taught in history books, such as “South Defeats North.” That’s what happened up at the UNI Dome this past Saturday during the 42nd Annual Shrine Bowl Game, as the South Team prevailed 23 – 7. Pella High football coach, Jay McKinstrey was the head coach for the south, and Little Dutch alum, Nathan Clayberg was a member of said squad. McKinstrey tells KNIA/KRLS Sports that Clayberg was selected as a captain by his fellow teammates, which is quite the honor, given the fact that the Shrine Bowl brings together the best of the best in terms of skill and character on and off the field. Proceeds from the game are distributed to the various Shriner’s Hospitals which help kids and families in need of care and assistance.
