Construction work in downtown Knoxville could soon be shutting down for the season.

At their biweekly Streetscape meeting Tuesday, officials discussed shutting the project down for the season after work on Third Street, east of the Marion County Courthouse, is completed. Assistant City Manager Dylan Feik talked to KNIA/KRLS News about the decision.

“Essentially the group has decided that, at this point, we’ve already got a lot of work done. Let’s just finish what we have now.”

Feik added fears about the weather and several upcoming events, such as RVTV’s visit to Knoxville prior to the Iowa/ISU football game and the Living Windows Lighted Parade during the holiday season, contributed to the decision to shut down early. Third Street construction is expected to be completed in late August or early September.
