Finishing the season on a tear, the Pella High softball team collected nine wins in their last 13 contests. There wasn’t a win or a blowout that righted the ship. According to Coach Krista DeMeulenaere, it was a loss that turned the light bulbs on over her players’ heads. She says the 4 – 0 loss to Dallas Center – Grimes, the Class 4A state champions, was the turning point of the season. DeMeulenaere explains that the fact that her girls stayed competitive against the top pitcher in the state in Paige Lowary gave her team the boost of confidence they needed the rest of the year. Pella loses just three seniors from their varsity softball squad and hope to climb the conference ladder next year.
