For the first time in school history, the Twin Cedars baseball team has made it to the Class 1A state championship game, with a dominating 11 – 0, five-inning win over Gehlen Catholic yesterday afternoon. The match-up between the two schools was anticipated to be a close one, with two very good pitchers on the mound in Coy Moore and Blake Wiltgen. However, the latter of the two walked five Saber batters in the first inning and allowed two base hits, and the score was 6 – 0 Twin Cedars after just six outs were recorded. Brent Parker had the Jays’ number, going 2-for-2, with the big blow being a bases-loaded double in the fourth that put his team up by 11. Moore did the rest of the dirty work on the mound, holding Gehlen Catholic to just two hits in five innings of shutout ball. The Sabers are now 35 – 0, and they take on the defending Class 1A champs, Newman Catholic out of Mason City tomorrow at noon in the state championship game. You can hear it live on AM 1320 and FM 95.3 KNIA and KNIAKRLS.com.
