The Knoxville City Council is scheduling a public hearing on special permit zoning. The hearing is part of a request by an area funeral home to expand parking around their building.

While investigating the request, Knoxville City Manager Harold Stewart says it was discovered that funeral homes are not an allowable use inside residential zoning areas of Knoxville.

“Currently we have three funeral homes that are in residential areas that aren’t in accordance with code and so what we’re looking at is actually amending the code to make those kind of uses appropriate.”

The public hearing has been scheduled for Monday, August 18th at the Council Chambers located in Knoxville City Hall beginning at 6:15pm.
