This week the Pella School Board reviewed nutrition policies and data that shows students are eating school lunches less frequently. Superintendent Greg Ebeling says that they’ve seen the number of school lunches eaten decline across the district over the last few years. Ebeling says new federal mandates have changed the menus at their schools to include healthier options and recipes, and that it’s been tough for kids to make the adjustment. He adds that the schools have been implementing other policies for wellness, such as more outdoor activity time, removing vending machines, and adding sports drink nutrition requirements.
