As was to be expected, the Pella High – Pella Christian volleyball match did not disappoint for those in attendance. It was the Eagles that prevailed, however, in four tight games, 25 – 23, 23 – 25, 25 – 23 and 25 – 18. The Lady Dutch used some strong blocking to keep them in several games, and held a lead in set three with the match tied at one apiece, before the Eagles used an 8 – 0 run down 12 – 14 to fuel their comeback. Eagles’ coach, Cindy Nikkel, says that they had a great game plan and the girls went out and executed. Lady Dutch coach, Catie Brand, says the Eagles just were able to find the court more often last night. Andrea Horstman had 15 kills and Rebecca Gritters added nine for the Eagles, while Christa Veenstra served up five aces for her team. Makenna Bogaard led all hitters with 17 kills with teammate Jessica Holterhaus not too far behind with 14. Pella Christian is now 12 – 8 overall with a 3 – 0 mark in conference play. Pella falls to 7 – 15 on the season and 1 – 2 in the league. The Lady Dutch are off until next Tuesday in a triangular with Centerville and Chariton, and the Eagles have another tournament this weekend, this time at home, with seven other area schools.
