After getting swept by Marshalltown to begin their season, the Pella Christian volleyball team responded with some strong play up in Ames on Saturday in tournament action. The Eagles began with a two-set loss to Urbandale, 10 – 21 and 13 – 21. Andrea Horstman had seven kills in the match. Charles City also took down the Eagles in straight sets to send them to the consolation bracket. Des Moines East, Fort Dodge, Ames and I-K-M Manning all fell to the Eagles. Against the Scarlets, Julia Dykstra had six aces and Andrea Horstman picked up another seven kills. Abby Pleima had 16 assists against Ames and Rebecca Gritters had six kills to coincide with three ace serves. Coach Cindy Nikkel tells KNIA/KRLS Sports that that her team was much better with their serve-receive, defense and she was incredibly happy with how they passed the ball. Pella Christian is now 4 – 3 and they take on Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont on the road this Thursday.
