Over at the Ballard Invitational on Saturday, the Pella High volleyball team came away winners in the tournament’s consolation bracket. Pella started with straight set losses to both Johnston and Greene County. The Lady Dutch then counter-punched with a three-game win over a tough North Polk team, 21 – 7, 7 – 21 and 15 – 11, followed by a victory over the home bombers, 25 – 15 and 25 – 19, before finishing the day on top of Greene County, 25 – 14 and 25 – 19. Makenna Bogaard had 34 kills combined on the day and Kiki Pingel had 72 assists for Pella, who is now 7 – 14 overall on the season. They will head home and host Pella Christian for their annual rivalry conference match this Tuesday.
