Not quite how they finished last year, the Pella High cross country teams still impressed at the ninth annual Heartland Classic at the Iowa State cross country course on Saturday. Pella’s girls came in 11th place overall as a team, finishing just 18 points behind Gilbert. Kelcey Blommers was the fastest for the Lady Dutch, with a 16th place time of 15:30. Ciara Buchheit was 43rd at 15:59. The Little Dutch ended up 15th, 29 points ahead of Gilbert, despite the Tigers having their top runner win the race individually. Adam Sievers crossed first for Pella’s boys, in a 56th-place time of 17:36. Ben Warner and Nick Bernhagen each clocked in at 17:40 to finish 59th and 62nd, respectively.
