Not one. Not two. Not three. Not even four. Five, count ’em, five times the Pleasantville volleyball team was facing match point to Van Meter, and each time, the Trojans found a way to even up the score and eventually win in dramatic fashion in the Class 2A regional tournament opener last night. Both teams traded blowouts in games one and two; Pleasantville took set one 25 – 9, and fell 25 – 12 in game two. The Bulldogs led most of the way in game three and won 25 – 20. The Trojans evened up the match with a 25 – 22 win in game four and then took the marathon that was game five, 24 – 22. Bailey Oliva’s ace serve was the final nail in the Bulldogs’ coffin that sealed the win for the Trojans. Kennedy Core had 27 kills, Oliva had eight, and Samantha Thompson came up with four aces, as Pleasantville advances to round two next Tuesday to face Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont on the road.
