By the same margin as last year’s thrashing, the Pella High girls’ basketball team was all over Des Moines North yesterday in their season opener, 80 – 10. Coach Jerod Garland tells KNIA/KRLS Sports his team had a strong transition game and were able to take advantage of a still-young Polar Bears’ squad. Five players scored double digits for the Lady Dutch, including Kiara Bradley and Morgan Terpstra, who each had 13, Mackenzie Gustafson had 12, Jessica Holterhaus contributed 11, and Katie Vander Molen scored ten. The team was also 23-for-32 at the free throw line. Pella begins the 2014-15 season 1 – 0 and they have a big test in front of them after the Thanksgiving break: on the road against a highly-touted Carlisle team on Tuesday.
