Coughing up a double-digit lead in the first half, the Central women’s basketball team came from behind in overtime to down Lakeland College yesterday afternoon, 63 – 59. The Dutch held a 31 – 17 lead with five minutes to go in the opening frame, before the Muskies answered with a 13 – 2 run to close the gap. Central outscored Lakeland, 8 – 4, in the extra period, hitting clutch free throws down the stretch to nab their ninth win of the year. Rachel Evans led the way with a game-high 16 points, and Madeline Simmons put in a dozen for the Dutch. The 6 – 3 Central men’s basketball team will try to get their licks in at home today before the 2015 ball drops as they welcome Grand View into the P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium. Coach Craig Douma says their difficult non-conference schedule should pay dividends in their game tonight. The Vikings enter play with a 5 – 6 mark. The two schools will tip-off this afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
