It was all Pella Christian in the Tulip City on Monday night, as they swept PCM in a doubleheader heard live on 92.1 KRLS. The Eagles’ gals used a strong finish to do away with the Mustangs, 57 – 49. Pella Christian scored 18 in the second quarter and 20 in the fourth, and stayed mostly out of foul trouble, which Coach Kevin Van Maanen says was a huge key to their win. Hannah Beltman had 18 points and 16 rebounds, while Autumn Vos scored 15 and Brooke Mitrisin dumped in 13. PCM was led by Rachel Freland with 16 and Courtney VanHouweling with 15. The boys’ game was anticipated to be a close one, but a 45-point final 16 minutes allowed the Eagles to pull away, 73 – 58. Mustangs’ Coach, Fred Lorensen, did not have many words after the game about his team’s effort. Josh Posthuma and Levi Jungling had man-sized games; the former scored 23 points and grabbed eight boards, while Jungling had a game-high 28 points. PCM’s Logan Gillman had a team-high 18. The Eagles’ girls are now 3 – 1, the boys improve to 4 – 0; PCM’s girls fall to 2 – 2 and the boys are 1 – 2. Pella Christian is off until Friday to play at home versus Oskaloosa, and the Mustangs are back at it tonight against Colfax-Mingo.
