The Pella High Little Dutch split their season home opener, with the girls winning 61-51, and the boys falling to the Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs 54-47 in games heard live on 92.1 KRLS. The Lady Dutch were on fire from beyond the arc, with seven 3-pointers, including 4 from Katie Vander Molen, who finished with 22 points. Girls Head Coach Jerod Garland says they were able to spread the ball around a lot offensively and a lot of girls played well, but says Vander Molen stood out. The boys were unable to gain much traction against a much larger DCG squad, despite a heads-up half-court desperation shot from Seth Johnson that drew a foul and pulled the game to within one after three made free throws at the end of the 3rd quarter. The girls move to 2-1 on the year and the boys fall to 1-1, with a road trip to Ballard coming up next on Tuesday.
