Pella High and Ballard split in their basketball doubleheader up in Huxley last night, as heard on 92.1 KRLS. The Lady Dutch and Bomber girls were involved in an offensive struggle, as Ballard came out on top, 48 – 37. Pella got as close as three early in the third, but would never get closer. Katie Vander Molen had a late surge to end with 11 points, while Mackenzie Gustafson and Ciara Buchheit each put in nine. A 50-point second half was well more than enough for the boys to salvage the split over the Bombers, 83 – 58. Isaac Naaktgeboren had a fantastic game, scoring 28 points, Will Warner had 20, and the Little Dutch as a team went 14-for-16 at the charity stripe. Coach Mark Core says he’s happy to see his guys convert their free throws. Pella High’s girls fall to 2 – 2 on the year, the boys are 2 – 1, and they’ll get back to conference play on Friday at home against Grinnell.
