PCM’s basketball teams are starting to find their groove. Both herds of Mustangs toppled their North Polk opponents on Tuesday night. The girls won 47 – 33 after holding just a three point lead at one point in the second quarter. Rachel Freland led all scorers with 18, and Courtney VanHouweling dumped in eight. The Mustangs’ boys won in a convincing 62 – 48 fashion. Coach Fred Lorensen tells KNIA/KRLS Sports that the game was not as close as the final score indicated, as the Comets scored a bunch with PCM’s reserves on the court in the fourth quarter. The Mustangs led 34 – 18 at intermission. Trey Lindsay drained six shots from the perimeter and finished with 24 points. PCM’s girls improve to 6 – 2 on the season while the boys are now 4 – 2, and each team has won three straight. Both schools head back home for the first time in two-and-a-half weeks for a doubleheader against Saydel.
