It’s the final game of the 2014 portion of the basketball schedule for Pella High and Pella Christian’s squads tonight. The two schools do battle inside of the Eagles’ gym for the first of two conference meet-ups this season. The Eagles’ gals are 1 – 1 in the conference and 5 – 1 overall and the Lady Dutch have only losses to ranked Carlisle and Ballard up to this point, but have won three straight, including two big league wins over Grinnell and Dallas Center-Grimes. Eagles’ coach, Kevin Van Maanen says if his girls can execute, anything can happen. Pella coach, Jerod Garland, was at PC’s game on Monday against Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, and says he noticed the intensity of the players on the court. The boys’ game should not disappoint; two high-powered offenses take to the hardwood with some big things up for grabs on both sides. The Little Dutch are in danger to fall to 0 – 3 in the Little Hawkeye Conference if they aren’t able to solve the Eagles, while Pella Christian has a chance to improve to 3 – 0 in a deep league. We could be in for an NBA-style shootout, as Pella High is averaging 75 points per game thus far, and Pella Christian is throwing up 69. Both teams are averaging at least 50% shooting from the field in the early going. You can hear tonight’s “Tulip City Rivalry” live on 92.1 KRLS and streamed live at KNIAKRLS.com with Cory Houser and Wynne Veenstra on the play-by-play. Pre-game coverage starts at around 5:45 p.m. with tip-off of the girls’ game at six.
