Our local Bluegrass Conference schools did not enjoy their Friday evening basketball games on the final week of the 2014 part of the season. Melcher-Dallas was swept by Murray; the girls fell 48 – 17, and the boys stumbled, 76 – 42. Sydney Suntken led her team with five points, and Jenny Petersen swatted five blocks. The Sabers came up empty against Ankeny Christian Academy. The girls lost a heartbreaker, 55 – 53. Liz Rowley scored a team-high 16, Shyanne Denburger scored 15, and Allie Utterback dumped in another 11. The Saber boys couldn’t get anything going in a 69 – 34 loss to a solid Eagles team. Otis Roby led all Saber scorers with 14. Twin Cedars’ girls tumble to 2 – 6, the boys are now 4 – 4; both schools will resume their seasons after the calendar turns to 2015.
