Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont scored just two points in the first period, and the Pella Christian girls’ basketball team held on to win last night, 53 – 40. Despite the slow start, the Rockets kept crawling back, getting as close as six points in the third, but some key outside shooting from Tessa Howerzyl and Brooke Mitrisin helped put the game out of reach. The Eagles outscored the Rockets 15 – 2 in that opening frame, and Coach Kevin Van Maanen says that was the difference maker. Howerzyl finished with a game-high 14, and Mitrisin added ten, as the Eagles improve to 5 – 1. They will next play Pella High on Friday night for their final game of 2014.
